Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on party members in Ebonyi State to set aside their differences and unite ahead of the forthcoming elections.
In a meeting held yesterday with the state leadership of the party, the former Bayelsa governor stressed the urgent need for reconciliation within the party ranks, warning that internal discord risked weakening the NDC’s ability to face the opposition at the polls.
The meeting was also attended by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Moses Cleopas. The Ebonyi State leadership was led by His Excellency, Senator Sam Egwu, who was unavoidably absent and was represented by Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo, a former Minister of State for Health.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Senator Dickson said the discussions had centred on the imperative of unity.
“We made a strong case for reconciliation and appealed to all members to put aside their differences, close ranks and work together for the success of the party,” he wrote.
“We encouraged the leadership and members to intensify their reconciliation efforts and remain united as we work towards securing victory for all our candidates in the forthcoming elections.”
To sustain the process, the meeting called for a series of follow-up meetings across Ebonyi State to ensure that all stakeholders were fully carried along.
In a further move to cement the reconciliation drive, a dedicated team has been constituted to work closely with stakeholders across the state.
According to Senator Dickson, the team will be tasked with facilitating genuine reconciliation, fostering unity, and positioning the NDC as a formidable force capable of confronting and defeating the opposition in all elections within the state.
“The task before us is clear,” the national leader added. “Unite our house, mobilise our members and work together for victory.”
The development comes amid growing political activity in the South-East as parties intensify preparations for the next electoral cycle. Ebonyi State, long considered a stronghold for the governing party, has seen increased interest from opposition parties seeking to make inroads.
The NDC’s push for internal cohesion is seen as a strategic priority if the party is to mount a credible challenge in the region. Political analysts have noted that factional tensions have historically hampered opposition parties in the South-East, making reconciliation efforts such as this one critical to any prospect of electoral success.
